Blog Writers Chat: Pitfalls of writing and self-publishing a non-fiction book
Are you thinking about writing a book?
Or are working on it already?
In the first episode of our brand new podcast “Blog Writers Chat with Jean + Ute” on Spotify, we discuss the 5 main pitfalls of writing our non-fiction book “Distinctive Voice: The fearless guide to a wholehearted blog worth noticing”.
Here’s a little preview of the content:
5 pitfalls of writing a book
- Planning and what to do when your plan goes wrong
- Writing without knowing whether it will be right for your reader
- Life getting in the way. What to do when that happens
- Losing motivation when writing gets hard – and how to get it back
- Tricky mindsets that can trip you up, e.g. imposter syndrome or doubts that you’re good enough
We also talk about aspects of co-writing and self-publishing… and a few other things.
This launch recording is a first for us, so in the spirit of authenticity we decided to embrace our imperfections instead of striving to be perfect. Ute is non-native English speaker who suffers from a chronic illness and Long Covid, and Jean is an ex-radio presenter who feels a little out of practice. The good thing is, we like to walk our talk!

Why a podcast?
We have been collaborating at Attract Readers since 2015. Having previously run our own businesses, we had both gained a lot of experience helping midlife (and older) women to find and express their unique voice. We’ve always known how important it is for creatives, authors, entrepreneurs and professionals to build an authentic and sustainable presence online.
But it isn’t always an easy thing to do! We’ve had personal experience of the impact setbacks and mindsets can have on how we show up online. Whatever it is, whether it’s a serious illness, a change in your circumstances or income or even the process of ageing and changing priorities, it can affect our writing.
Whilst the learning never stops, we are grateful that we are able to bring a wealth of insight and resilience to our work. And now it’s time to share it further afield.
